Last week on Ooh La Frou Frou,
we tuned in to see four of our illustrated girls,
Tiffany, Violet, Alex and Hope
sipping cappuccinos and discussing a very fun project ...
and it's a project that I think
we all fantasize about at times ...
Hope has emptied her bedroom in her city apartment
and is completely redecorating it
from head-to-toe!
She has been shopping for weeks in design stores all over the city ...
and you know what happens when you shop that much ...
after a while, you just have to find a soft place to lie down
~ even if it's in the furniture store ~
and schedule an appointment
for a fabulous foot massage from
Angel Feet
in Greenwich Village.
Hope didn't let a little foot fatigue slow down her
decorating plans ...
while enjoying that glorious foot massage,
Hope made good use of the time
by doing some serious research in
her new favorite design book:
Mary McDonald Interiors
The Allure of Style
Mary McDonald is one of the mega-talented designers
starring in the hilariously-over-the-top television show
"Million Dollar Decorators,"
which premiered on Bravo this season.
Mary's thing is ... GLAMOUR
and some of her decorating quotes in her book
are as deliciously glamorous as her rooms ...
As Hope leafed through Mary McDonald's book,
she realized she was sure about one thing ...
she wanted her bedroom to remind her of
a glamorous boutique.
Then when Hope turned the page,
she found a room that spoke to her and
told her which boutique it would be:
Christian Dior!
Christian Dior ~ New York
Earlier this year,
we saw how Hope turned a
second bedroom in her apartment into a dressing room.
It just so happens the built-ins in her dressing room
were designed to look like a boutique, as well ...
This is the room in Mary McDonald's book
that was inspired by Dior ...
Before we see a rough sketch of Hope's room,
let's take a virtual trip to Paris and look in at Dior ...
Christian Dior in Paris has beautiful pale grey carpets,
fabulous architectural detail and touches of antique gold ...
It has luxurious, beautifully-lit built-ins (above).
Don't you think the display cases in Paris Dior above
look very much like Hope's dressing room built-ins?
Did you know that for the Paris Dior boutique, they used
57 shades of grey?
The 57th Street Manhattan store
has classic Dior details
with an added contemporary flair.
The same head-to-toe grey and lots of mirror ...
Ready to look at Hope's fantasy bedroom design?
Last week when the girls stopped by
Hope's apartment, it was empty ...
Below, we're revealing for the first time
the floor plan of Hope's luxury apartment
on the twelfth floor
of the elegant fictional apartment building
called "The City Girl"
{if you'd like to see the exterior of her
apartment building, just check the previous post} ...
You can see the master bedroom below
and the position of its arched window on the right side
and you can see why Hope turned the second bedroom
into a dressing room ... it's perfect with the master bath in between ...
notice there's also a window by the oval tub!
The dining room and kitchen both have
floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the city, as well!
Last week we showed you five beds that
we were considering for Hope and asked for your votes ...
Thanks to all of you Glamorous Girlfriends
for your help!
The votes from the blog comments and Twitter
have now been counted!
AND THE WINNER IS:
The Haute House
Platinum Tufted Bed
Bed Number 3
The results of the remainder of the votes were:
A very close second: Bed Number 2
Third place: Bed Number 5
Fourth place: Bed Number 4
Fifth place: Bed Number 1
Now ...
as we promised,
following is the first rough sketch of Hope's bedroom design!
You'll see more finished illustrations in the future ...
this sketch has many of her first pieces in place,
including her new bed!
Design Details:
~ Paint ~
~ Furniture and Accessory Details ~
A luxurious pale grey rug sits atop Hope's hardwood floor.
We designed a bed canopy that is attached at the ceiling.
The colors were chosen to resemble
the bed in the Mary McDonald Dior-inspired room:
Outside of canopy: white fabric;
Inside of canopy is lined with fabric matching the Dior Grey
of the doors and the Dior Grey fabric is gathered at the back..
We thought that having a canopy such as this
may give a sense of privacy while still enjoying the view ...
like a room within a room.
Curtain panels on either side of the window
are white with a Dior Grey inner stripe
and can be drawn across the glass if desired for privacy.
The rod is a beautiful antique gold color.
Her bedding is all white, to give the feel of a luxury hotel.
The mirrors chosen to reflect the sparkle of city lights
above the nightstands are these.
The nightstands combine the antique gold color of Dior Paris details
and black wrought iron to reflect the Dior stair railing ...
and these would be custom made.
A glimmer of crystal comes from these lamps on the nightstands.
There stands a mirrored parsons table at the window.
And a grey upholstered chair is reminiscent of the
grey upholstered chairs at Dior.
Hope has a large grouping of
black and white photographs matted and framed in white
on a wall that you cannot see in the sketch.
These black and white photos are of ...
boutiques, of course!

I'm loving Hope's bedroom Sandy honey! Wow, once again you amaze me with your talent. Have a fabulous week baby! Kori xoxo
I had no idea about the 57 shades of grey :) and the room inspired by Dior is So beautiful and classic.
Great post
xoDale
I want Hope's dressing room closet! SO GLORIOUS!
Love your posts, darling Sandy. They always make me daydream :-)
XO Camille @ The Wild Fleur
Kori Donahue: Hi Kori .. so glad you stopped by ~ always a pleasure! Thanks so much for your compliment ~ and we're so glad to have you back from your trip! xoxo
Dale: Thanks, sweetie. Yes, I was amazed too ... 57! Makes you want a tour of Paris Dior so they can point out all 57 shades! ;) Thanks for stopping by, darling! xoxo
The Wild Fleur: Hi sweet Camille! So glad you love Hope's dressing room .. wouldn't THAT be fun to walk into each morning?! And thank you for the compliment .. if I inspire daydreams, I've done my job! Have a wonderful week, darling and thanks for stopping by. xoxo
Wow! so much work goes into your blog posts; they are incredible. The images from Dior were truly breathtaking, and Hopes bedroom.....what can I say?I LOVE the shades/colours you have picked. Would never have thought of shades of grey for a bedroom, but it's stunning!
Oo I've got lots of ideas from this post, I love the boutique prints in the frames, I might need to try that at my apartment (which is not as lush as Hope's, but perhaps I cam aim for it being equally as stylish!)

Oh the glamour! How about you sketch a home for me to live in!
This is so beautiful, and I love that you focus on all the elements, not just the bed. The story is just as important as the sketches. I cannot wait to see more of your amazing talent. Bravo Sandy!!
I love this post, maybe because I have become obsessed with decorating my place and the next thing I need is a head board (did I tell you my bedroom is gray too)? Anyway, I love this gorgeous post and the sitting room too. Hope you had a great weekend Sandy!
xo mary jo
I'm prepping for a big move to a new apartment, and the grey may be just what I needed for inspiration! Adore the grey with pink flowers and gold accents. How utterly glam. ;)
And I adore Mary McDonald! ;)
i love hope's bedroom sketch!! i am taking notes because i want a bedroom like hers!! and just a side note ~ my new favorite color is grey! happy monday to you!!
xo ~ kristina
Vanessa at Luxuria: Hi sweetie ~ thank you for dropping by! You're right, the grey is stunning ..the grey in the Dior Paris store with the pink flowers in the center stays in the background and looks like a sophisticated neutral .. and that's the way I wanted Hope's room to feel .. sophisticated. Perfect for adding a hit of color to when the whim hits, such as a bouquet of hot pink flowers on the nightstand (which Hope will have in the future ... guaranteed!).xoxo
Style on the Couch: Hi city girl! So excited that Hope's room gave you ideas for your own New York apartment bedroom! Fun! When the wall that contains Hope's black and white prints is shown at a later date, you will see that the prints are bigger than they appear here and they are in a block ~ three rows of four prints, so lots of boutique images! xoxo
Not Just Another Milla: Thank you so very much, Milla. It's just as much fun to create the story of the girls lives as it is to illustrate them ... it's just hard sometimes to choose what they should do for a given post because there are no limitations when the girls are illustrated! A fun problem, indeed! xoxo
Trust Your Style: Thanks, Mary Jo! Mondays are more of a weekend for me than weekends themselves, as I'm often blogging since Ooh La Frou Frou posts are up on Mondays ... so today, I pulled a Hope and went shopping! Love that your bedroom is grey too .. would love to see pictures sometime! xoxo
Glitterista: Love that you like the pink with the grey ~ I do too ~ in fact, that's the color that has been chosen for Hope's accent color in the room (love grey and pink whether it's hot pink or barely-there pink) and the pink will be used in Hope's room in items such as flowers, or tiny french upholstered stool, etc. I love Mary McDonald too! She's my favorite talent on the show! xoxo
Kristina at Beancakes: I LOVE that you're taking notes because you want a room just like Hope's .. you'll have to take pictures, Kristina! Yes, isn't the grey gorgeous and sophisticated? Soooo very pretty with the gold and the sparkle of mirror! xoxo
I love the animation where her heel is just hanging off her foot! Such a classic image! lol! And oh wow, Dior...one of my fashion loves. Other than the recent collection, Dior has my heart. btw, the bedroom poll was a lot of fun! Maybe you could do something similar in the future?

like it! :)
If you want, follow me and I'll follow you back. :)

Oooh...oooh, so fabulous Sandy! What a lucky girl Hope is! I love...love...love it! I just KNEW it was going to be bed number 3!
I got to say I love Mary's style and those quotes are sooo me! :)
Angelica Ng: Hi sweetie ~ so glad you enjoyed the cinemagraph of Hope's moving shoe and the vote for Hope's bed ..we'll involve our Glamorous Girlfriends on many fun decisions in the future! Fun! xoxo
Sara: Thanks, Sara ~ I'd be happy to check out your blog ~ xoxo
Margarita Bloom: SO glad you love Hope's room, sweetie ~ it IS very glamorous and will be even prettier as accessories such as hot pink flowers get into place. I was happy to see that it was #3 too, as it goes so well with a Dior plan .. like it was made for it! The New York store has some grey velvet sofas flanking a pretty white fireplace and the bed is in the same color of grey and is velvet! Our Glamorous Girlfriends chose well ~ bed #2 was a verrrry close second! xoxo
This is awesome! and I love the illustration of the closet. so lovely!
xoxo
Miss Neira
MissNeira: Hi sweetie! Glad you loved Hope's dresing room ... what more could a girl want than to feel as if she's shopping in a boutique every morning when she gets dressed, right? Thanks so much for stopping by! xo
Another breathtaking post! And you're comment on my post was sooo sweet! It is truly a real treat everytime I receive your blog in my email!. I love the way you show us your inspirations and plans...just fab!
xo

www.fashion-isha.com
Fashion-isha: Thanks, sweetie! It's so good to hear that you're enjoying getting the blog in your e-mails and hearing about all of my inspiration and the plans for the girls. When I recently did a "Glamorous Review" post for each of the girls, they laid the groundwork because they showed the outside of each of the girls' apartment buildings. Now that the girls have an "apartment" that everyone has had a glimpse of, the story just goes from there! I sort of think of each week's adventures rather like an illustrated tv show that you watch once a week! Who knows where all this groundwork will lead ... maybe a real tv show or movie? You never know .... and you would have seen it all develop from the start! ;) Have a wonderful week! xoxo
Oh I love this Sandy, love every aspect of it! Such a great post!

Oh to have a dressing room...Le sigh.
Sandy, Hope has amazing taste and I would love to be a fly on the wall in that closet and bedroom. Very inspiring & luxe! xoxo
Hope you are having a great week and glad to have you back in full creative swing of things doll!
http://onestyleatatime.blogspot.com/
Oh my goodness, this plan is just lovely! I have long adored the idea of taking inspiration from a favorite boutique and bringing that inspiration into your space in some way. How divine Dior is and I love the details that have been thought of for the new look of the space... and 57 different greys? I had NO idea — wow!
*sigh* such a lovely site to visit... Hope you are having a great week so far,
xx, Sarah
Alexa ~ The Short and Sweet of It: Thanks, honey ... so glad you could stop by .. always a pleasure, darling! xo
Kristin ~ Yes, what could be better than stepping into the room next door and feeling as if you're in the Dior Paris boutique ... Le Sigh is right, I do believe! Thanks, Kristin! xo
Fashionista622: Hi Lovey ~ thanks so much for stopping by the blog, commenting and for your sweet compliments, you're such a doll. And as far as that "fly in the wall" we kind of will be, as we'll see Hope again in these rooms and be able to watch some of her "life" here and in the other rooms of her apartment! xo
Sarah Klassen: Hi Sarah! Thank you so very much for stopping by to visit Ooh La Frou Frou this week .. and thanks so much for your compliments. Curious to know, if you were decorating a bedroom or dressing room for yourself, which designer you would like your rooms to reflect?! xoxo
Love the white bedroom, so peaceful. Hope you had a lovely vacation. Summer school ends this week. That means almost two weeks of rest. Have a lovely day ~ xox Alexandra
Hope's room is gorgeous.. I would love to have a bed canopy like hers. I love the numerous shades of grey and the floor plan that makes everything so realistic and all the more dreamy at the same time :)
What a fantastic post! Love it!
