I've been traveling a lot lately.
Ohhhhh, yes, I have.
Oh, where to, do you ask?
Ummmmm ... my studio?
I may have mentioned before that
each time I create an illustration or piece of artwork,
it NEVER fails that I mentally put myself in the place
that I'm illustrating.
It happens automatically ... I have no choice.
And it's a nice fringe benefit of what I do.
So, my mental bags are always packed
for the next exciting place I'll go ...
it may be to Paris ...
or to a summer's day even though it's fall ...
or shopping at a home decor boutique ...
or a visit to a luxurious spa ...
and believe it or not,
I've been to all of those places last week alone,
via the custom illustrations I'm currently working on.
All of that mental travel
to exciting and fun places
is an awful lot of fun.
Sometimes, however,
an exciting illustration opportunity
comes my way (yay!) that must be done asap ...
and even though I already have a
back-to-back illustration schedule,
I sometimes try to fit them in ...
and when that happens, all that mental travel
can leave a girl just a wee bit jet-lagged!
Do you have something that you love to do
and get so absorbed in it
that it mentally "takes you away?"

Love your post Sandy. I guess when I am cooking I get transported away to the country's cuisine I am dabbling in. When I smell the aromas, spices etc I always get transported. Also if reading a good book. Sometimes seeing the film of the book doesn't work for me as in my mind I have already created the whole atmosphere/setting of the book ;-)

Oh, Sandy...that luggage...I've got a little lost in that ;-)
but the thing I love to do and I get totally absorbed in is my yoga practice...it takes me to another place, it helps me clear away the mental clutter...it inspires me.

Beautiful post Sandy, I wish I could just pack up my bags and jet off somewhere! I like the idea of mentally traveling, even the exciting thought of exotic places for just a brief moment will add such spark and positivity to my day
A mental vacation can sometimes be just as rejuvenating as a physical one. I can only imagine the fabulous places your wonderful illustrations have been taking you lately. Photography can usually mentally "take me away" from everything especially when I get caught up in styling and lighting.

Every time I post a pic on my blog or up on my facebook or twitter I just imagine myself in it...if it's a pic of a field of flowers...I daydream I'm laying down on a blanket starring up at the sky and imagining what the clouds look most like! Oooh, there's a kitty cat! and a castle over there!!! heehee...
