September Girl

  Everyone knows I'm a
Summer Girl.

No one loves long, lazy days
at the beach more than I.
I wait and wait all Winter long
for
Summer
and when it's finally here,
I squeeze every last bit of juice from it.
Don't you?

But as August draws to an end ...
I know it won't be long before these glorious
Summer Days
will draw to an end too.
Even though the first day of Autumn isn't until
September 22,
something always happens in my mind
when I awake on September 1
and I find myself sighing and mentally
packing away my sandals
as I'm coaxed by nature to welcome in the
beauty of another Autumn to come.
And when that happens,
it's as if I can almost feel the Summer days
begin to fade a bit as they prepare to become
 sweet memories ...

This seasonal transition is always
accompanied by a melancholy feeling for me.
When I recently came across this
David Yurman 2012 Fall Jewelry ad campaign film,
I thought it captured this melancholy feeling
so very well.
Featuring Gisele Bundchen, one moment the film shows
her swimsuit-clad and walking dreamily at the seashore,
as if this is simply a sweet Summer memory ...
and in the next scene she's dressed
in a warm sweater or tweed jacket as if
she's preparing mentally for Fall ...
and when the song lyrics say
"Here I am, Here I am, Waiting to Hold You"
it almost seems as if it's Autumn's invitation
for us to enter her September Party.

Thank you for this lovely film,
David Yurman.

I truly do love Autumn and celebrate
and look forward to it's colorful celebration.
That's why I also consider myself a
~September Girl~
... are you?
Soft sweaters, the smell of new leather boots,
the magic of fall color,
apple cider and donuts,
cozying up to a bonfire,
the crunch of leaves under our feet ...
even the word "September"
sounds romantic to me.

~September~
The glorious month that introduces in the fall season,
 when trees don colorful ballgowns
and throw confetti all around ...

Beautiful film and gorgeous voice...I'm going to have to find out who is singing ;-) I know what you mean about Summer, but we have had so little here in the UK this year, that I'm actually longing for September and the autumn months...soft cashmere, new leather boots and my favourite coats...yes, I'm definitely a September Girl ;-)
Have a great day.

Love this post. I too am a September girl (I was even born in the month of September)! To me, summer ends when Sept. rolls around. Back to school always signals the end of summer to me. I love Autumn - it's my favorite time of the year. Autumn in New England is breathtaking...Everyone should see it at least once! xo

Oh Sandy, I feel the exact same way! I'm such a summer girl at heart but there's something so magical about the change into fall. It's definitely a melancholy feeling as well. That video speaks volumes to me.

Thank you for sharing and for making me look forward to what's yet to come :) xoxo

Sandy,

I enjoy summer but I must say Autumn is my ultimate favorite. The fall leaves, pumpkins, smell of baked goods, cinnamon, apple picking and cider it's all so warm and inviting. Of course, I can't leave out my favorite....Fall Fashion! Great post darling. xoxo

Sandy I feel the same way--luckily it's still summer here through September and beautiful in October, so unless I head to nyc soon I won't be wearing any of those fabulous fall things you speak of...just yet. Hope you are enjoying your new home!

After 12 years living in the Med, I can't wait for Autumn. I LOVE the whole "cosiness" of Autumn; comfort food, soft cashmere socks and gorgeous colors. Your images have got me all excited about the forthcoming months ;-) xx

There are times when I think I wouldn't mind a never ending summer but by the time Labor Day rolls around, I'm usually ready for Autumn to arrive so I guess I'm abit of a September girl as well. Thanks for sharing that lovely David Yurman film. You always share the loveliest images. Hope you're having a splendid week in your little paradise. Enjoy the long weekend dear Sandy!

I wish I could be a September girl, but I just love summer too much. Although, I guess I do relish the return of lovely tall boots and cozy sweaters. But, even though autumn doesn't officially start until September 22, for those of us in school, it feels much earlier...

I feel exactly the same about September 1st and feel as if I suddenly have to pack away those summer clothes. I do love autumn outfits in warm berry shades and caramel tones. Your autumn images are stunning.
